The Krush Brain Game (Pt. 4)
Welcome to the Krush Brain Game, where we are digging down deep to decide if “the brain” should be added to our list of top priorities in human performance. One of the fundamental priorities that must be addressed if we hope to tap into and even raise our ceiling of potential.
Technology is the name of the game on this week’s episode of Krush Performance. We have come a long way in our understanding of human performance but when we look to the future, we feel it will be new technologies and our understanding of the brain that will allow us to push human performance to new heights.
Today, we talk with Lucas Borgo, Product Manager in charge of performance products at Thought Technology. We look into the technology that is allowing us to train the brain and perform at new heights. We’ll discuss, how it all works, what exactly are we measuring, and where do we go from here because we are only at the very beginning of this new age in human performance.
So let’s roll and start our look at the technology that is now allowing us to train the brain like never before.
Let us know if you have had an experience with psychology or brain training that has impacted your performance, we’d love to hear about it.

The Krush Brain Game (Pt. 3)
On this week’s episode of Krush Performance, “The Krush Brain Game” continues as we dig down deep to establish if the brain should be classified as a top priority in human performance. This week, we look at the concept of mindfulness.
What is Mindfulness? How can we utilize Mindfulness in our everyday lives and in the world of sport to get control and push our performance to new levels?
The brain is like Mission Control for everything we do, it is one of, if not the, most complex organisms in our known universe. So how do we go about getting control of our brain, our thoughts, our emotions, and ultimately our performance? Could there be simple strategies that allow us to better control our brains and brain function?
We talk with Dr. Inna Khazan, Clinical Psychologist and founder of the Boston Center for Health Psychology and Biofeedback. Dr. Khazan is a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and she is also a renowned expert in the field of biofeedback and mindfulness.
Also, as promised, we get to some of the messages from the Krush Mailbag. We’ve had some really great questions have come in and I’d like to get to a few of them.
The Krush Brain Game continues as we work to establish the brain as one of the “Krush Top Priorities in Human Performance.”
I personally can’t wait to share this week’s show with you. I have seen mindfulness at work and it is incredibly powerful.

The Krush Brain Game (Pt. 2)
Is the brain a top priority for human performance? Is it something that should be addressed before we go on to train and develop strength, speed, or power? Or, should it be addressed before we even focus on skill, talent, and technical and tactical work? Welcome to our special Krush Performance series called, “The Brain Game.”
We are digging down deep trying to get a better idea of what brain performance is all about and how exactly do you define “the brain” in terms of human performance.
As it stands, we currently have four priorities that we feel must be addressed first & foremost if we are truly going to attack and even raise the potential of our athletes & performers. They are:
- Sleep, Rest & Recovery
- Nutrition & Hydration
- Posture & Range of Motion
- Movement
After these four are in order, we can then go on to attack the complete development of our athletes…..OR CAN WE?
The brain is a huge piece of the performance puzzle and new advances in technology are not only allowing us to map and track brain performance like never before but it’s also allowing us to train the brain in real-time and in ways that we have NEVER been able to until recently.
We’ve been talking with some of the top people in the world in order to decide if the brain should be classified as one of our top priorities for pushing human performance forward and today, we talk with Dr. Erik Peper, Professor of Holistic Health at San Francisco State University. Dr. Peper is an international authority on biofeedback and is the President of the Biofeedback Federation of Europe.
We’ll discuss the brain-body connection it is a two-way street and we look at how technology is set to launch us into the next level of understanding the brain and influencing brain performance.
It’s an incredibly exciting time in human performance.
Follow our series, “The Brain Game,” at Krush Performance.com and let us know if you think the brain should become a top 5 priority in human performance.
This is such an important conversation. The series may be two episodes, it may be more.
Your feedback, questions, and comments will guide the series and we will not stop until we have a consensus. Should the brain be a top priority in setting the stage for human performance?

The Krush Brain Game (Pt. 1)
“The Brain Game.” We are digging down deep trying to get a better idea of what brain performance is all about and how exactly do you define “the brain” in terms of human performance?
In the upcoming weeks, we will visit with some of the top people in the world from all areas of human performance to help us decide if the brain should be one of our top priorities for pushing human performance forward.
Should the brain be one of the top priorities? One of those foundations that supports and drives the development of performance and potential or should it be something we address once we have the table set? Is it one of the areas we address once we have our program in order, once we are organized, and ready to attack human performance, in the short term and the long term? Is this when we attack brain performance?
What exactly is brain performance? It’s a really big and really important question.
Today, we kick off this all-important series with Krush favorite, Dr. Martin Mrazik, Clinical Neuropsychologist, Professor and Chair of Undergraduate Studies, Department of Psychology, University of Alberta.
We set the stage and get a look at the vastness and scope of brain performance and the mental game of truly raising the potential of human performance.
This is such an important conversation. The series may be two episodes, it may be more.
Your feedback, questions, and comments will guide the series and we will not stop until we have a consensus. Should the brain be a top priority in setting the stage for human performance?

COVID, NFL Preview, & The Brain Game
On this week’s episode of Krush Performance, we address some of your comments on the Krush special series, “Class C: The Kids of COVID.” We break down the potential of the “COVID Technical Advantage.” Could there be a performance benefit to the COVID shutdown?
We think so and there are rumblings coming out of the NBA bubble that reflect exactly this as some GM’s and owners are questioning effects of travel. How many miles does the average NBA team travel in a season and how does it compare to the other major sports? You are not going to believe the numbers! There is no question it impacts performance.
Also, with week one of the NFL in the books, we breakdown the 2020/’21 NFL season Krush style with all the storylines, teams, and players we are watching.
Finally, as we head into the fall we reintroduce the upcoming Krush series “The Brain Game.” It’s a special Krush look at the brain and brain performance in sport. What all does “The Brain” encompass? How does it impact performance? Can we train it? Should the brain be classified as one of the Krush top priorities in human performance?

Class C – The Kids of COVID (Pt 2 of 2)
It’s episode 2 of our special series titled, “Class C: The Kids of COVID.” The Series takes a good hard look at the impact that COVID-19 and the shutdown have had on our youth and our athletes and how they are dealing with it all.
What is the impact of the shutdown?
How has our youth adjusted & adapted?
Will the shutdown and the COVID landscape have long lasting implications?
Is it possible, that for our athletes, this downtime may have some benefits?
Have we done enough to support our youth and athletes through these difficult times?
What can we do moving forward to take advantage of this time, what kind of a mindset should we embrace and what can organizations and sports programs do to make sure the return to sport is safe so we can all get back at it with confidence.
In this episode, we talk with player agent Manny Schmidt from Link Management International to discuss how they have been supporting their athletes and the messages they have been sharing to help their athletes not only cope with what has been a brutal disruption to their master plans and how to take this adversity and turn it into potential & growth.
Then, we talk with one of my all time favorite your professional athletes, James Hamblin, who’s final season of Junior Hockey was cut short due to COVID. He finished 3rd overall in WHL scoring. He and the team were looking forward to a great play-off run and of course, James was looking forward to his final game in front of the home crowd in Medicine Hat but it was all for not as it was taken away by COVID. Now, with a pro contract with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League, how did he deal with the abrupt end of his season and junior career and how has he been framing things up as he waits to see what sport will look like this fall?
This is a conversation that every athlete should hear right along with coaches, parents, and teachers everywhere.
Then, to wrap up the series, we take a look at a youth sporting organization that could very well be the poster organization for how to set up safe operations getting their players engaged, active and improving amid the strict COVID safety guidelines. We talk with Kelly Hodgson, competitive technical coach of the Scottish United Soccer Club, about how they have gone to great lengths to support their players and families and create and safe environment for all of their people.
They might be one of the best groups we could watch to see if Dr. Holt’s COVID technical advantage becomes a reality on the other side of all this madness.

Class C – The Kids of COVID (Pt 1 of 2)
Today on Krush Performance, we bring you episode one of a two part series: CLASS C: The Kids of COVID-19. In the next few weeks, we are going to talk with coaches, agents, athletes, psychologists and students as we focus on the impact COVID has had on our youth and how they are dealing with it all.
Six months ago, society as we know it came to a full stop. Since then, nearly every person on Earth has been impacted in some way or another by COVID-19. Sickness, loss of life, the devastating economic impact: COVID-19 has taken its toll & it is still taking….
So, as we adjust, adapt, and work towards some kind of normal, the new normal perhaps…
• We watch with interest the race for a vaccine
• We applaud with heartfelt thanks the front line workers who are providing medical treatment, keeping us safe and allowing us to maintain – if only a small part – some form of normal – getting groceries, going out to eat & now getting the kids back to school
• And we grieve & morn with and for everyone who has been robbed of a loved one
• And we battle, fight and adjust right along side everyone as we all wade through and adapt to the economic impact Covid-19 has had on us all.
But flying under the radar is something we have found to be incredibly important, not often discussed – at least in public forums and that is the impact of the COVID-19 shutdown on our youth & our young adults.
• For all of those students who missed a very important right of passage – the Graduating Class of 2020 – though we found ways to celebrate and some were very very cool- it was different & we can’t & won’t stop thinking of and cheering for you all.
• As College student – How do you deal with not being able to play in your last or maybe even your only March Madness?
• As a high school student What do you feel when your sport, your music, your drama, your schooling – your friends are all taken away….
• How do you manage, as an athlete, the postponement or cancellation of a competitive season – no matter what level you compete at?
• And how in the HELL do you comprehend and react to the delay and perhaps the cancellation of the OLYMPICS??

Brainwashed – A Powerful Perspective on Brain Injury and CTE
The Krush word of the day is Perspective.
Are you concerned about playing or having your kids play a contact sport? Why? Are you concerned about playing football or having your kids play football? Why?
If it is due to concerns over brain injury, concussions, or CTE, this is a MUST LISTEN EPISODE of KRUSH PERFORMANCE.
Today, we are joined by Merril Hoge, former NFL player, Speaker, Broadcaster and author of the Krush “Must Read” book, “Brainwashed: The Bad Science Behind CTE and the Plot to Destroy Football.”
When it comes to brain injury, concussions and most of all CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) do you have all the information you need to make good decisions? Or have we been at the mercy of the media and media hype surrounding this important topic.
Merril has lived it, was not happy with what was being said and what he was. He did a deep dive into the research and talked to some of the best doctors and researchers in the world…the result was this all-important book that is shedding new light on the whole body of research and the issues with what we have been hearing in the media.
Get set for some Perspective and let us know what you think after hearing what Merril has to say – get to us at info@krushperfomance.com.

Breaking Down Obesity – It’s Not Your Fault!
This week on Krush Performance, The War on Sugar continues with a special episode looking at new guidelines coming out of Canada that will help redefine the issues surrounding what is one of the greatest concerns facing global healthcare: obesity.
We are joined by Dr. Aria Sharma, Professor of Medicine and Past-Chair in Obesity Research and Management at the University of Alberta. Dr. Sharma is the founder and Scientific Director of Obesity Canada, a network of over 10,000 obesity researchers, health professionals and other stakeholders.
The new Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines were authored by more than 60 health professionals, researchers and individuals living with obesity. Together, they assessed well over 500,000 published peer-reviewed articles and built consensus on a wide range of clinical and scientific issues to identify 80 key recommendations.
The new guidelines are about refocusing our attention and efforts. They are about the quality of life…..NOT a number on a Scale.
They contain key messages for people living with obesity, as well as key messages & recommendations for healthcare providers and policy makers so we can move forward with clarity and purpose.
We also discuss important upcoming Krush episodes looking at the impact of COVID-19 on our youth, our fall series focused on the brain, and we continue to fuel the Krush War on Sugar with some incredible guests sharing powerful information.

Whether you are one of the world’s top performers looking to get better or if you are among sports next generation of game-changers, stepping back and having a good look at the world of professional sport is a perfect way to calibrate your perspective.
Today, we do just that.
With the return of pro sports, we’re talking sports with Krush favorite, Allan Mitchel (AKA: Lowetide), host of The Lowedown on TSN and Contributor to The Athletic. We have a good look at the return of pro sports, stories to watch, and things to look forward to.
Then, we go to another Krush favorite in a preview/teaser of our series looking at the Brain Game and what the future of human performance might look like.
The brain is perhaps the most complex organism in our known universe. Good news, we all have one. Tough News, we are only starting to understand how that thing really works.
If you listen to the show, you know we strongly believe that the brain holds the secrets for pushing human performance to new levels.
To set the stage and get us all thinking about the implications here, we need to first get an idea of how the brain works or at least how we think it works based on what we know at this point.
We are joined by Tim Nicely, founder of V-Flex Sports. Tim is a thought leader when it comes to brain performance and he gets us thinking. Not only is he on a quest to better understand how the brain functions but he has also been creating tools that “Feed Forward” the potential of better brain performance.
It’s a fun and fascinating episode of Krush Performance as we talk sports and set the stage for our upcoming series on the Brain Game.
