Should kids be held back in school to get an advantage in Sport?

May 29/ 2015/

Believe it or not it is happening. Have we gone to far???
On this episode of Krush Performance we are joined by Dr. Joe Baker professor in the school of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at York University.  We discuss the dangers of trying to predict future success and what good talent ID looks like, the changing role of parents in development & sport also relative age and what it means in terms of development.

What is deliberate practice and the roll it plays in development and what people should be thinking when it comes to competition and their practice time.
Interesting Excerpt: – when parents and coaches try to identify talent at a young age what they’re doing is looking for obvious characteristics: like speed, strength, power. Those are much more related to growth than they are to talent and so when they think they’re seeing talent, they’re actually seeing growth

“Helping Kids Perform- Mental skills that every parent, teacher and coach should master”

May 26/ 2015/

In this episode of Krush Performance we discuss how adults are causing the children they interact with to mentally sabotage their own performance. Not intentionally, for the most part, but through our words and actions could we be corrupting the mindset of our children resulting in lack of confidence, problems with self -esteem, worry and the inability to focus….?
When you peel away the layers what is at the root of the problem… Worry – it’s a learned human trait that we adopt early in life because of the people and the environment around us.
My guest Dr. Jacques Dallaire of Performance Prime talks about his new book “Helping Kids Perform – Mental Skills That Every Parent, Teacher, and Coach Should Master”
We outline the issues and look at the solutions to help kids perform effectively and with less anxiety – sport, school, music, relationships you name it!
