Weight Loss Inspiration

Mar 10/ 2017/

The Krush Performance “War On Sugar” rages on!

Listen Here!

There are some very scary numbers coming out of Canada. We know that global trends on sugar consumption & obesity and the related health issues are very similar and if that’s the case, these new numbers coming out of Canada should put fear into everyone on the globe.

This week, we talk to one of my true inspirations, my good friend and colleague TSN 1260, our engineer Trevor Stuart, who is a real life example of taking control. We’ll tell his story of taking back his health and his life and you’ll see how doable it really is.

The question… Is the sugar in your diet Killing you?

Based on recent research, it does not look good and SUGAR is a major culprit! High sugar.

It sounds like it should be common sense but where is the sense in this:

  • Increased risk of certain cancers
  • Increased risk of degenerative brain diseases
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Reduced sports performance and recovery in athletes
  • Cost to health care – Could the strain of obesity and diabetes alone bring down every health care system on the planet?

Find out right here on Krush Performance’s #WARonSUGAR!

We’ll also quickly look at some incredible performances out of the NFL combine and set up upcoming shows.

Mar 10/ 2017/

Let’s start with a question: Are your kids using Appearance & Performance Enhancing Drugs such as steroids, stimulants, diuretics, or Over the Counter Supplements?

Listen here now

I talk with Donald Hooton Jr., President of the Taylor Hooton Foundation, about the current statistics, concerns, and prevention strategies and programs for Appearance & Performance Enhancing Drug use.

Don’t think for a second that your child, your athletes, or your students have not or will not at some point think about using!

Here are some scary statistics:

  • 1.5 million teens admit to using
  • 62.5% of steroid users do it to improve their looks
  • 85% of high school students have never had a parent, teacher, or coach talk to them about the dangers of using performance enhancing drugs
  • The fastest growing user group of performance enhancing drugs: Young Females

It’s an all important conversation and one that is too often overlooked.

So let’s start talking right now!

Pro Performance: A Meeting of the Minds
If you don’t think baseball and hockey have anything in common, think again.

When it comes to player development and organizational success, a lot can be learned by watching, sharing, and studying teams from other sports. The sharing of information is becoming more popular as teams constantly search for ways to improve player development.

LISTEN HERE

While organizations are very guarded around the competition in their leagues, we are seeing teams go to other sports to share and learn different philosophies and new approaches for success in sport.

Today, we talk with Rick Carriere, the Senior Director of Player Development for the Edmonton Oilers, about what we need to be thinking about at the developmental levels of hockey, the Oilers approach to Player Development, and what the Oilers took away from their meeting with the Kansas City Royals.

On the other side of this great story, we talk with JJ Picollo, Vice President & Assistant GM of Player Personnel for the Kansas City Royals, about player development, the tragic loss of Yordano Ventura, what he meant to the organization, and how they are coping with this great loss.

We’ll find out what the Royals took away from their meeting with the Edmonton Oilers and how they are using statistics and sport science to get the most out of their players.

Talent & Performance: The Power Of Environment

Mar 05/ 2017/

How much power does your Environment have on the development of skill, talent and over all performance?

It goes back to the age old question of “Nature vs Nurture” or “Genetics vs. Environment.’

Our interests and pursuits are largely dictated by our genetics. We naturally gravitate to things that we are good at and we enjoy doing and while our genetics play a major roll, if you are not in the right environment, at the right time, and with the right support, there is little to no chance of success.

This week, we investigate the power of environment and we look at one of the greatest human development experiments in history: The Polgar Sisters.

We are joined by Judit Polgar, the youngest of the famed Polgar Sisters, who took on and dominated the chess world. We will discuss her Father, Lazlo Polgar, his research, and how Judit and her sisters turned out to be the star players in what is considered to be the greatest talent development experiment ever.

The Next Level of Human Performance: The Mind

Mar 05/ 2017/

On this episode of Krush Performance we look at what might be the last great bastion of Human Performance – The Mind.

Where are the next great advancements in human performance going to be found? Where are the next world records and great feats of physical ability going to come from?

The Mind & Advances in Technology. Today we discuss where we currently are in our quest to master the mind and how technology is influencing human performance. If we look at Human Performance – sport, business, school or life in general we have pretty much mastered the developmental process.

On the physical side of performance, we own it!

Bigger – Faster – Stronger…not a problem! NOT in the least. However, if you do not have the physical side of your development in order you have no chance of succeeding at the higher levels of competition– so it is a top priority in the process of long term development.

In Talent & Skill development & acquisition… we also have this pretty much down. Technical -Tactical – Strategic planning – we have it. So where are the next great leaps in Human performance going to come from??

Harnessing the power of the Mind and advances in Technology

We are joined today by Registered Psychologist John Stevenson of Zone Performance as we discuss new methods for training our brains and new technology that is providing real time feedback on what exactly is going on in our minds – allowing us to react, understand and ultimately control our minds.

Plus, we will break down one of the greatest events on the sporting calendar – Super Bowl 51 – it’s big business and we’ll look at the fun stats that surround the big game and we’ll make our picks. How much money is spent on Super Bowl related items?
How many Chicken Wings are consumed? Pizzas?
Can you begin to guess how much beer we will drink on game day?
The cost of a 30 second commercial – how about a last minute ticket to the game. And much more.

The Krush Question of the day: What is the main factor that separates a great organization from the rest?

Let us know and if you have any Questions, Comments or Smart Remarks or a topic you would like us to investigate let us know we may dedicate a segment or even an entire show to your topic.

From the grass roots entry levels right up to the highest levels of performance parents, teachers, bosses, managers and coaches are the keys to quality learning and development.

This week we begin our investigation into coaching and coaching development with a look at Canada and the Canadian sport system. Canada is a world leader in sport science and athlete development and running parallel to one of the most innovative athlete development programs ever developed – the long Term Athlete Development program – is the Canadian NCCP: National Coaching Certification Program.

Wayne Parro, senior coaching consultant and advisor to the Coaching Association of Canada joins us to discuss the Canadian system.

Motivation is a big part of coaching, but we are really off base in our understanding of what motivates us. We go back to a fantastic conversation with author, speaker and television host Dan Pink to review what science knows about motivation and what sport and business actually does and we’ll discuss the three elements of true motivation.

Join us, get motivated and share this episode of Krush Performance as we begin look into coaching & coaching development. And, let us know if you have question or a topic you would like us to investigate.

Specialization and Talent Identification

Jan 05/ 2017/

Is it a good idea to specialize early or is it better to sample different activities and specialize later in the developmental process?

When we look at talent development and skill acquisition, it seems logical to totally immerse yourself in the endeavor you want to master but there is compelling research showing that early specialization, though it may appear to be beneficial in the short term, can really limit top end performance.

We talk with Dr. Joe Baker of York University and Dr. Jean Cote, Professor of Sports Psychology, as we take a good hard look at the pitfalls of specialization and what we don’t really know about talent ID.
