Jan 30/ 2018/

Sport Under Fire – Russian Doping Scandal
This week on our Special Krush Performance Investigative Report Sport Under Fire, we look into one of my top storylines from 2017, the Russian Doping Scandal.

It may sound like a Hollywood Movie Script but it’s all too real. Whistleblowers feared for their lives as they secretly worked to put together evidence to blow the top off of what may be one of the most alarming systematic, state run doping programs in modern sport history.

Former Olympian, first President of the World Anti-Doping Agency, and lead investigator in the Russian Doping Probe, Richard Pound will join us. Get set for an inside look at the timeline and incredible details of the investigation that blew it all wide open.
We know the fight against crime and doping in sport is an uphill battle, the cheaters and criminals always seem to be one step ahead of the law but to make matters worse, there is a new and powerful threat to the integrity of sport and fair play emerging – The Dark Web.

The Dark Web is very real and for law makers it poses maybe the greatest threat yet, how do you fight what you can’t see?

The Director of Intelligence and Investigations for the World Anti-Doping Agency, Gunter Younger will run fill us in on the Russian investigation. The gathering of evidence and the future battle as cyber crime and the dark web are the next frontier for organized crime and the next greatest threat to the integrity of sport.

Minky Worden: Director of Global Initiatives – Human Rights Watch
You don’t usually think of Human Rights when you talk of sport but you need to. Minky Worden sheds light on some of the most atrocious happenings in the world of sport including human trafficking, the sex trade, forced labor. and child rights issues. The human side of sport corruption is often over looked but thanks to the efforts of organizations like the Human Rights Watch over $8 Million dollars in unpaid wages from the construction of the Sochi Olympics finally reached the workers who labored in brutal conditions to meet the unreasonable timelines.

2017 Year In Review (Pt. 2 of 2)

Jan 22/ 2018/

2017 was such a powerful year for Krush Performance we could not do it justice with just one review show so here is part two of the Krush Performance 2017 Year in Review. 2017 was a blockbuster year of learning, sharing of information and exceptional guests. There are two the really stood out for me.

For anyone who follows the show, you will know that we have a very distinct priority list when it comes to our performance programs and Rest & Recovery, Regeneration, and Sleep Rule.

We take our sleep very seriously. In September, we were joined by renown sleep science researcher Cheri Mah to discuss the power of sleep and its impact on human performance. If you doubt or question the importance of sleep, you won’t after hearing this discussion.

On my birthday in October, we were joined by Krush Favorite Jim Fannin, the Coach of Champions, to talk about performance planning because it does take planning. I am never sure where our discussions with Jim will wind up but this one was epic in my opinion as we talked about Jim’s new book, “Blue Print,” coming out the spring of 2018.

Also, I give a little glimpse into what we have planned for 2018. I am predicting this to be the greatest Krush Performance year yet and I really hope that you will join us.

Remember, if you have any questions, comments, smart remarks, or if you have a topic you would like us to investigate let us know, we may dedicate a segment or even an entire show to your topic. E-Mail Jeff now!

And if you get a chance share the Krush Podcast with your fellow coaches, team-mates and family members.
Here’s to 2018!

2017 Year In Review (Pt. 1 of 2)

Jan 22/ 2018/

As we all wrap up the final details of 2017, we are looking back on some of the great interviews, discussions, and revelations from this last year.

This week, we look back on the power of environment and the age old discussion of “Nature vs. Nurture.” Back in February, I was finally able to check off one of my Krush Most Wanted Interviews as we caught up with legendary Grand Master Chess Super Star Judit Polgar to talk about her incredible upbringing and how the developmental environment she grew up in destined her to be one of the World’s top chess players.

We also took a good hard look at the dark side of doping in sport, as the Russian Athletic Federation was caught running a state sanctioned doping program which got them banned from the Olympic Games. We spoke with our good friend David Howman the newly appointed Chair of the Athletics Integrity Unit.

Coming off this powerful episode with Mr. Howman I asked the question, “Are Your Kids Using?” As we looked at the alarming numbers of steroid and banned substance in school aged kids… The numbers will chill you to the bone. We spoke with Donald Hooten Jr. from the Hooten Foundation to get a better understanding of what is really going on.

A powerful recap of our 2017 campaign, I hope you enjoy this episode.

Make sure to share the Krush Podcast with your fellow coaches, team-mates and family members.

Dr. Jackie Whittaker Talks Injury Prevention

Dec 12/ 2017/

Injury prevention is on the show today.
Many of the injuries we are seeing are avoidable through proper preparation for sport and we are working to get a better understanding of how injuries are happening, who is at risk, and what injury prevention strategies are most effective.

I’m  joined by Dr. Jackie Whittaker, Assistant Professor and Adjunct Professor of Kinesiology at the University of Alberta and the Research Director at the Glen Sather Sport Medicine Clinic.

How can we keep you healthy? Can we save your knees? Are you at high risk for osteoarthritis? Young athletes who experience a knee injury are at four times greater risk of developing osteoarthritis than youth who do not have a knee injury.
What is the financial impact of injuries in sport? Billions. TENS of billions.

Krusher and Dr. Whittaker discuss it all.
Listen Here:

And later in the show, we will be answering some e-mails & text questions that have come in over the last few weeks:
• “Krusher, hey is there a better way to find the right skate? I can never get the right fit and are there better skates for different types of games?”
• “Krush Piece – love the show, hey is there a right way or wrong way to sharpen skates?”
To get the right answer we go to the expert, Kelly Hodgson, Brand & Event Manager at United Cycle, joins us to make sure we are getting it right.

Let us know if you have any questions, comments, smart remarks, or a topic you would like us to investigate. We may dedicate a segment or even an entire show to your topic. E-Mail me with your questions and comments!
Thanks for listening as we work to prevent injuries and keep you healthy. If you get a chance, share this with your fellow coaches, team-mates and family members.

Remembering Roy Halladay & Veterans/Remembrance Day

Nov 14/ 2017/

This week on Krush Performance, I remember a great friend and teammate lost this week.
Two time Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay was a true inspiration to all who knew him and for all who had the opportunity to see him perform. I spent a good number of years in the Blue Jay organization and Roy Halladay was there for every one of them. I’d like to go back and share with you some of my stories and experiences from my time with Roy.

He was a player who became an inspiration and there is a lot to learn from the great Roy Halladay. He was a family man, a baseball player, pitcher, and a fierce competitor. He was humble, deliberate, determined, and a player who’s approach and love for the game of baseball will transcend the test of time.

Also, Remembrance Day in Canada and Veterans Day in the United States is a very special time. In this episode of Krush Performance, we pay tribute to the great men and women who serve their countries in the name of freedom and democracy.

We are going to talk with David Cooper, former Navy Seal, Command Master Chief of the Naval Special Warfare Development Group and member of Seal Team Six, one of the most successful tactical military forces in history. We will talk with Dave about leadership, teamwork, and performance mindset and what goes into preparing the brave man and women for service in the military.
A very important episode of remembrance and respect.

“Born To Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, & The Greatest Race The World Has Never Seen”

Nov 06/ 2017/

In honor of everyone who ran, volunteered, watched, and organized the New York City Marathon*

On the Krush Performance Must Read List, “Born To Run” is one of the best books I have had the pleasure to read.

A brilliant mix of epic story telling and facilitating science that, in the end, makes you think twice about what you think you know about running and human performance.

Chris McDougall joins us to, not only talk about the book, but his quest for answers and the incredible adventure that ensued as he set out to find a tribe of the world’s greatest distance runners, the reclusive Tarahumara Indians in Mexico’s deadly Copper Canyons.

For centuries, they have honed and practiced techniques that not only have given them the superhuman talent to run hundreds of miles without rest but they have also developed an uncanny health and serenity which leaves them immune to the disease and illness that plagues modern society.

Download and hear the story from Chris as he travels from the super modern labs and technology of places like Harvard to some of the most treacherous terrain in the world to find these very special people and learn their secrets.
Enjoy.
