FIFA World Cup & The Value Of Pro Soccer Teams
The biggest show in sport on Earth? The FIFA World Cup is certainly among the front runners.
This week, we look at the rankings of the biggest events in sport and we ask the question, “Is the World Cup Of Soccer the toughest championship to win?”
We talk with Krush Favorite Mike Ozanian, Assistant Managing Editor at Forbes and Co-Host/Managing Editor of the award winning “Forbes Sports Money Show,” to review the Forbes 15th Annual List of the World’s Most Valuable Soccer Teams. Who rules soccer? We find out.
Also, we look at the most valuable sport franchises in ALL of Sport. Where do the top soccer teams rank? How about the NFL, MLB, and NBA? They all make the list but who gets the ranking of the most valuable sport franchise?

The Krush Mailbag
It has been a very busy spring here at Krush Performance as we work to spread the good word and help people work towards their goals. We love the questions and work to answer every message we get. So this week, I answer these questions as we dip into the Krush Mailbag to address some of the messages we have received over the last few weeks and answer these three questions:
• “Krush, What are the Keys to Performance in Developmental Sport? I’d like to hear more about your presentation to that sport council you mentioned.”
• “Jeff, loved the Drunk & Stoned show. Now that CBD oil is off the Banned Substance list, is it safe? What does it do for you?”
• “What process does a substance go through to be taken off the banned substance list? It either helps performance or it does not. How does and why would the status change?”
• “Krusher, heard you mention your presentation to the road building company. What does a sports guy say to a construction company?”
Also this week, I’m going back to our “Drunk & Stoned” episode and all of the questions regarding CBD oil. I wanted to dig a little deeper into the implications of CBD oil being taken off of the World Anti Doping Agency’s Banned Substance List. To help us with this, we are joined by Rob Koehler, the Deputy General Director of the World Anti Doping Agency.
Finally, what does a sports guy have to say to a construction company? Listen, anywhere there are people working towards a goal or objective the fundamental principles of human performance can be applied, I’ll let you know what we talked about and why I believe every company, school and team should be having these conversations.
If you have any questions or a topic you would like us to investigate get to us, we may dedicate a segment or an entire episode to your topic.

Technology – Tapping into the Mind
Technology and the Mind – the two areas of greatest potential for pushing the limits of Human Performance!
We have a solid grip on the physical side of development. Faster. Higher. Stronger. Farther. We really know how all of this works and it’s really no problem at all. When we look at this combined with what we know about talent development, and skill acquisition, there is not an athlete we can’t help get better.
Now, with advancements in technology, we are in a place where we can not only see what is going on in the minds of our athletes but we can see it in real time and, even better, we can teach them how to control their minds for improved performance.
It’s not rocket science but maybe it takes a rocket scientist!
Today, we talk with Jason Sherwin, co-founder of DeCervo and aerospace engineer, about their great technology and program, uHit.
In an industry that is flooded with sensors, programs, and data, what is useful? What is meaningful? What can we use to actually impact our athletes and their performance?
Here is what I can tell you….. when the technology catches up and matches our knowledge of training and development, all HELL is going to break loose in the world of Human Performance!
In this episode, we get one step closer.
If you have any questions or a topic you would like us to investigate get to us, we may dedicate a segment or an entire episode to your topic.

Drunk & Stoned: The Impact & Affects of Alcohol and Drugs on Performance & Development
This week is one of the most important Krush Performance episodes of 2018.
Our research was focused on the implications of alcohol and drug use in sport, on performance and development and simply put, we opened a giant can of worms. The number of uncertainties, questions, and issues here turned out to be much, much bigger than we first suspected. We quickly realized that one episode will not be enough but today we’ll get a good start.
We’re be joined by Rebecca Haines-Saah, Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, and co-lead for the O’Brien Institute for Public Health’s, Population Health and Prevention Interest Group.
There are many uncertainties and questions surrounding the impact of alcohols and drug use:
1. How does alcohol impact performance? It’s pretty basic and it might go deeper than you think.
2. When we talk drugs today, let’s focus on cannabis:
– How does it impact performance
– How does it impact development
– What are the issues we are facing with legalization?
– What can we learn from certain states in the US where it is legalized
– And as Canada gets set to legalize from coast to coast – what are we looking at…in terms of sport & development?
– Medical benefits are well documented, Medical exemptions in sport
– CBD oil taken off of WADA’s banned substance list in January 2018
– Pot and anything with THC is still banned.
– Questions on production, purity, public health, potency….every issue we see in the supplement industry we see here.
3. How does Cannabis impact development? Are there issues with addiction and dependency?
There are so many questions and so little time.
Also, in this episode, we are going to look deeper into the impact of substance use on our youth, consider the implications of legalization, look at an incredible movement that is getting kids off drugs and alcohol (Hint: Education just doesn’t work!) and we’ll touch on the effects of alcohol on performance.
If you have any questions or a topic you would like us to investigate get to us, we may dedicate a segment or an entire episode to your topic.

Data & Analytics in Sport
For better or for worse, numbers are changing sport. Today, we examine the impact of analytics and data as it touches virtually every aspect of the $90 Billion professional sports market from player recruitment to fan engagement.
Organizations are using the numbers to them get an edge on the competition and the numbers are now influencing player development, talent recruitment, fan engagement, injury prevention and even contract negotiations.
What do the numbers really mean AND are we looking at the right ones though?
Wayne Greiner of Quality of Pitch Baseball joins us to talk about how they are pushing the analytics envelope in a quest for more meaningful numbers and it is a conversation that every general manager, coach, player, and fan should listen to as we get insight into the wicked world of numbers in sport.
If you have any questions or a topic you would like us to investigate get to us, we may dedicate a segment or an entire episode to your topic.

Age Appropriate Training
This week on Krush Performance, modified sport – is it better for development? Short nets, smaller rackets, bats, balls, smaller fields, courts & ice surfaces? Are sport modifications for kids better for long term development? Does it make sense?
I talk with Krush Favorite Paul Carson, Vice President of Membership Development for HockeyCanada.ca.
Hockey Canada has initiated changes to novice hockey with the half ice game. We’ll talk about the initiative and what they are hoping to accomplish with this innovative move. Sport organizations all over the world should be watching closely.
We did a Twitter poll question earlier in the week asking our followers: “Are sport modifications for kids better for long term development?
Here are the results:
56% Yes
9% No
32% Sometimes
Let us know what you think.
I also lay out my thoughts on some of the strategies we use to maximize the performance of our athletes. Getting good is SO much fun!

Performance Vision Training & The NFL Draft
Do you want to get better right now? There are some trainable aspects of performance that can impact performance immediately. Vision is one of the most powerful influencers on human performance in & out of sport. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most under valued & under trained areas of performance.
This week, I talk about performance vision training with Ryan Harrison of Slow The Game Down about how you can improve your vision and the powerful influence vision has on performance outcomes.
Also, I talk NFL Draft with The Con Man – he is one of the most passionate & knowledgeable NFL fans I know.
What is next for these great young football talents? Can not getting drafted be a blessing? It certainly is not the end of the line. In fact, many teams make their mark with undrafted players.
There are some great story lines coming out of this year’s draft and some teams we now need to follow very closely.

Anxiety, Stress, & Depression
Athletes are often perceived as confident, healthy, outgoing, and positive but that’s not always the case. Stress, anxiety, and depression are very powerful words and we are hearing them more and more inside and outside of sport.
Anxiety is very real and if you are not armed with the tools to cope and deal with anxiety it can become debilitating or worse it can develop into depression.
Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses world wide and some research suggests that symptoms of anxiety and depression may be higher among athletes than in the general public for a number of reasons.
I say to all of my athletes and coaches the first step in fixing a problem is to accurately define the problem and in today’s episode we are going to do just that as we are joined by registered psychologist, Kristy Gialet.
This week, we ask the questions “What is Anxiety?” “What causes Anxiety?” “What are the signs & symptoms?” “What can we do to head it off at the pass?”
We also take a look into depression, suicide, and dealing with traumatic events.
I share with you some sage advice from one of my mentors and great friends the late and great Harvey Dorfman one of the pioneers of sport psychology.
We have all had our challenges and hardships. Know you are not alone and there are great people out there just waiting to lend a hand.
